While it’s much easier to just go out and buy the most popular brands of shoes, if you’re serious about running, you will want to buy specific running shoes to prevent injury and allow you to reach your full potential.

There are a lot of things to consider when buying your first pair of running shoes. The arch of your foot and how your foot distributes weight when it hits the ground are part of these deciding factors. Specialty shops often perform tests for you to help you determine foot type and the appropriate shoe.
